• Quito, the capitol of Ecuador, is the second highest capitol city in the world. Over 2 million people are scattered over the hillsides.
  • Drs. Jocelyn Jacobs, from the United States (Northern hemisphere), and Rick LeCouteur, an Australia native (Southern hemisphere) meet for a brief summit at the equator.
  • Drs. Paul Currie, Rick LeCouteur and Doug Mader engage in a push-up contest at the 10,000’ elevation mark.

  • This Quichua Indian woman prepares peppers. The human-pet bond is alive and well on the equator – her kitten is on her knee watching her work.
  • Stray dogs are ubiquitous. It does not take a skilled veterinarian to note that most are not neutered. A short distance away from the Quichua woman was this comfortable dog and its sentry chicken.
  • On the way to Otavalo to visit the market the bus stopped at the actual equator. The NAVC Galapagos travelers straddle the equator – simultaneously representing the NAVC in both hemispheres at the same time! This is a first for veterinary Continuing Education!
