NAVC/Educational Concepts Enter Strategic Alliance

GAINESVILLE--To make the most of the respective expertise of each, the NAVC and Educational Concepts LLC, publisher of Clinician’s Brief and Exceptional Veterinary Team, have entered a new expanded working relationship.

Under its new aegis, Educational Concepts has assumed responsibility for the marketing programs and initiatives of NAVC, including the NAVC Conference, NAVC Institute, and NAVC Expeditions. The new navc.com is one of the first efforts on behalf of NAVC that Educational Concepts has launched. The website sports a new more interactive and easy-to-use format and transparently links Clinician’s Brief, the official publication of the NAVC, and its sister publication, Exceptional Veterinary Team, to NAVC.

The history of the close collaboration between Educational Concepts and NAVC began with the inception of NAVC Clinician’s Brief, the practical clinical journal for small animal veterinarians, in 2001. At that time, NAVC had been considering launching its own publication in its ongoing efforts to provide year-round continuing education opportunities for the profession. Founding owners of Educational Concepts, Elizabeth Green, John O’Brien, and Toni Passaretti had long been involved with efforts on behalf of the NAVC. Dr. Colin Burrows, Executive Director of NAVC, and Dr. Rick DeBowes, NAVC President at that time, met with Green, O’Brien, and Passaretti at the NAVC Conference 2000--and an alliance was born.

In its history of less than 10 years, Clinician’s Brief established itself as the leading journal for small animal practitioners in a market of competitive journals that were mature and well established. It responded to a need among generalist practitioners for a veterinary journal that covers the burgeoning published information in a concise, templated format suited to their demanding schedules. In June 2009, Exceptional Veterinary Team was launched, its mission to foster better communication and relationships among veterinarians, veterinary technicians, practice managers, and other staff and, in turn, with clients, thus providing exceptional care to patients.

The mission of the NAVC is to provide world-class continuing education for all members of the veterinary health care team and its strategic vision is to expand and continually improve the NAVC Conference and other opportunities for veterinary educational advancement.

Beth Green, President of Educational Concepts, says of the alliance, “In a market characterized by continual consolidation, selecting strategic partners that provide opportunity for synergy and growth is vital. The partnership between NAVC, a world-class provider of veterinary continuing education, and Educational Concepts, publisher of top-ranked clinical and professional-skills content, allows us to pool our intellectual resources and add innovation to everything we offer.” NAVC Executive Director Dr. Colin Burrows agrees, “We are excited by the results thus far and by the possibilities that the alliance promises. Both companies aspire to provide exceptional resources to the veterinary health care team and ultimately to enhance both the profession and its allied industry. In this case, one plus one makes more than two.”
