GAINESVILLE--The NAVC and the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) are pleased to announce joining forces in their mutual efforts to bring the best in education to veterinary technicians.
The new partnership aims to enhance this vital group of professionals--and veterinary medicine as a whole. Beginning in 2011, the scientific meeting of NAVTA will be offered at the NAVC Conference.
Colin F. Burrows, BVetMed, PhD, HonFRCVS, DACVIM, Executive Director of the NAVC, says of the affiliation, “This is a historic event and another first for the NAVC. We were first to have a technician on the board and are the first to have a technician nominated to the presidential chain. We are committed to the support of technicians as an important and integral part of the veterinary health care team.”
“We believe that the new partnership will build on the strengths of each group. NAVTA will host a professional development conference this November, but has never wanted to duplicate the efforts of amazing scientific programs already in place,” explained NAVTA President, Denise Mikita, MS, CVT. “NAVTA has had a long-term partnership with the NAVC by hosting the Annual Membership Meeting in conjunction with the NAVC Conference. This meeting is scheduled to occur again this year as a luncheon on Monday, January 17th at noon.”
The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) is a nonprofit organization that represents and promotes the profession of Veterinary Technology. NAVTA provides direction, education, support, and coordination for its members. Incorporated in 1981, NAVTA is the national organization devoted exclusively to developing and enhancing the profession of veterinary technology. NAVTA actively promotes National Veterinary Technician Week, which is the 3rd week in October every year. For more information about NAVTA and the veterinary technician specialties, visit their website at www.navta.net.
The mission of the NAVC is to provide world-class continuing education to all members of the veterinary health care team. It was founded in 1982 to provide an educational opportunity in the form of an annual winter conference. Since that time, it has expanded its efforts to include the NAVC Institute, intensive educational sessions on a single topic in the spring; NAVC Expeditions to remote locations that combine veterinary and ecological continuing education; ever-expanding involvement in international CE meetings, including the LAVC (Latin America) and the SEVC (Europe); NAVC OnCampus efforts to promote the best education for veterinary students; and both Clinician's Brief, its official publication for small animal practitioners, and Exceptional Veterinary Team, devoted to fostering the professional growth of and communication among all members of the veterinary team. NAVC has included veterinary technology in its educational programming from its inception and today the NAVC Conference has an unrivaled array of educational offerings for veterinary technicians.
