NAVC Hospital MakeoverTM Contest

The NAVC Hospital Makeover™ Contest is awarding a deserving veterinary practice and hospital staff a $25,000 makeover for a selected room or area of their clinic.

Congratulations to the Cat Hospital of Orlando, selected as the winner of the NAVC Hospital Makeover™ Contest! John Stowe submitted an essay and pictures of the clinic on behalf of his wife, Dr. Sumerlin, who has run the clinic for the past 20 years. Congratulations!

Originally built as a residence in 1958, the Cat Hospital of Orlando was last renovated in 1991. Dr. Sumerlin, who suffers from MS, spent 20 years taking care of clients and patients, while her husband took care of bookeeping, human resources, and building maintenance.

But upgrades and renovations were on hold due to concerns over the economy and his wife's health condition. Today, Stowe fears the clinic's monotonous look is driving clients away.

"From the cracked VCT flooring and torn accent wallpaper, to the water stained ceiling, our building does not convey the clean and comfortable atmosphere it once did," he writes.

Stowe wants to honor his wife, who recently retired from the practice, by providing a new facility for the staff.

"As a tribute to my wife’s hard work and personal sacrifice, I would greatly appreciate assistance in giving the lobby and reception areas a complete make-over," he adds.
