Brett Beckman, DVM, FAVD, Diplomate AVDC, AAPM

Dr. Brett Beckman is a 1987 graduate of Mississippi State University. He is a Fellow in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry and a diplomate in the American Veterinary Dental College.  Dr. Beckman is a recent past President of the American Veterinary Dental Society and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Foundation for Veterinary Dentistry. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the field of veterinary dentistry, oral surgery and pain management. In 2007, Dr. Beckman became a diplomate in the American Academy of Pain Management and was honored as Alumnus of the Year by the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2010, he was acknowledged for his role in veterinary dental education with the distinguished Fellow of the Year award from the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. Dr. Beckman accepts dentistry and oral surgery cases in Dallas, Atlanta, Orlando and Punta Gorda, Florida. He owns and operates the Veterinary Dental Education Center in Punta Gorda dedicated to advancing the educational needs of veterinarians and veterinary technicians around the world in the field of dentistry and oral surgery.

Course Description

This comprehensive veterinary dentistry course encompasses the scope of dental disciplines. Lecture and laboratory experiences focus on practical information critical to establishing a successful high quality dentistry service within the hospital. State of the art equipment utilized in the lab provides students with exposure to the latest in technology in both the human and veterinary fields. The laboratory experience is precluded by step-by-step lecture instruction to include surgical extractions, periodontal regenerative therapy, periodontal flap procedures, oral neoplasia excision, palatal defect repair and restorative techniques.  
 
Veterinarians interested in maximizing the dentistry services in their practice will find this course extremely valuable. Surgical and restorative techniques are chosen to reflect the nature and extent of that encountered in daily practice. Four of the world’s best veterinary dental educators combine to provide a unique, encompassing and rewarding experience in veterinary dentistry education.
 

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Learn proper performance of intermediate oral surgery procedures including surgical extractions, periodontal surgery, gingival defect repair, oral mass excision and palatal defect repair.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of diagnostic and treatment options for oral disease in dogs and cats.
  • Gain a thorough understanding of dental radiographic interpretation, technique and positioning.
  • Learn proper performance of enamel and dentin restorations.
